Archive for February, 2008

Eli Joshua Meneses is here…

Well, Eli came 3 weeks early. It was an incredible couple of days for Amanda and I. Contractions started coming strong on Friday and continued to Saturday. So Saturday we went to the hospital and Amanda was 3 cm dilated and really in pain. The nurses sent us home because the contractions were not close enough together, but on Sunday we went back and they graciously let us stay (thank you God!). We spent the night on Sunday and on Monday morning we were in business. At 11:01a, on February 25, 2008 our son was born. All the emotions were really overwhelming. I cannot express the JOY in my heart and all the other feelings we experienced in those moments. People have told us how great it is to have children, but nothing can compare to the moment when it actually happens. It was very much like the moment after we were married, we were in the Limo and realized we’re married now. We are so happy that God has so blessed us. It is the best feeling in the world to be a dad. When Eli came out Amanda and I cried and when we made eye contact with each other, we communicated without words our joy in that moment……all that we have been waiting for.

Here are the details on our Son.

Name: Eli Joshua Meneses
Weight: 5.15 lbs
Length: 19 inches
Time born: 11:01a

We got to go home today (Wednesday) and are trying to figure out what just happened. It all went so fast and we have not slept much. We will give more updates this weekend hopefully and add more pictures. He changes by the day, becoming more beautiful by the second.

Here are a couple of pictures for you (these are from my camera phone, we’ll put up some better ones soon):

capturing the moment

An awesome friend, Kelly Mayberry, took maternity pictures for me this weekend. She did a fantastic job. I wanted to make sure I had pictures to remind myself of the belly. I’m becoming more and more aware that the belly won’t be around much longer! My body is starting let me know that it’s ready to weigh a little bit less (sore knees, hips, back, etc.). I look forward to feeling somewhat “normal” again. However, I am truly enjoying the excitement and anticipation that comes with pregnancy. Amazingly, I still have a hard time believing that I’m going to be having a baby in a few weeks (only four left to go)! I can feel him moving and see all of his cute things in our house, but it still doesn’t feel “real.” I keep dreaming of holding our sweet little blessing and kissing his little head. How awesome it’s going to be!!

This baby is on his way….

Only 33 days left (if we have him on our due date)!  Wow, our baby boy is coming soon and very soon.  We went to the doctor yesterday and everything looks great.  The baby is in place for delivery and things are starting to progress.  This boy could come sooner than 33 days.  The doctor said we’ll probably have a little baby, around 6lbs.  But you never know, Amanda may surprise everyone.

The doctor told Amanda that she is 50% effaced.  I didn’t know anything about this stuff until we attended our baby classes.  Here is what I learned:

How is effacement measured? Effacement is measured in percentages. For example, your health care provider may tell you that you are effaced 50%, which means you are half way to being completely effaced. When you are 100% effaced or completely effaced, your cervix is paper-thin and labor is right around the corner.

So in simple words, we’re close to having this baby.  Could be any time….any day.  Stay tuned!

our baby nursery

It’s hard to believe that I am already 34 weeks along. We will be meeting our little boy sometime in the next six weeks! I’ve been in a crazy “nesting” mode, cleaning the house everyday. I keep thinking, “The baby could arrive at any time, so I have to be ready!” One huge accomplishment has been the completion (or almost completion) of his nursery. It is such a good feeling! We are proud of our work. It took a while to find all of the furniture, but we feel great about how it all turned out. Here are some pics:
